One of our Broker/Owner partners Tom, has been in Real Estate and investment consulting in Costa Rica for over 26 years. An executive with a major housewares manufacturer in California for 13 years, he first came to Costa Rica on a surf trip in 1979 and after serving here in Peace Corps in the mid 1980’s and earning an MBA from USC he finally realized his dream of returning here to live permanently in 1991. Married with two children and four grandkids, Tom is active in local community affairs including his church and Rotary Club. Tom is Dean of the the real estate industry locally and is very knowledgeable about land on all the beaches from Panama to Nicaragua.

Arthur Kuesel first arrived to Costa Rica with the Peace Corps after graduating from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1981. He spent five years here as a volunteer and with the US Embassy.  He returned to the great, but cold Midwest, where he attained a Masters degree from the University of Illinois in Education. Art also received his realtor license at that time.  He met his Costa Rican wife in Chicago and moved back here permanently with their three boys in 1998. Art worked a total of twenty-five years in education while always working part time as a realtor both in the US and Costa Rica.  In 2011 Art came to Jaco to join forces with his old friend and broker of the office, Tom.  He now divides his time between Jaco and San Jose.

Philippe first came in 1991 when he was 19 to help build and manage Cabinas Flor de Esterillos in Esterillos Este which belongs to his aunt. After 2 years in the country he went back to Montreal where he started his own restaurant bistro which he owned for 10 years making it one of the most succesfull Bistro's of the Montreal northern suburb. Once he sold his restaurant, he was hired by SYSCO foods wich was his major distributor at the restaurant. Throughout his 9 year carreer at SYSCO as a foodservice consultant he won different titles such as Toarchbearer for the year 2008 for best rep, and sales up to 3 million dollars. He always wanted to go back to Costa Rica so he did the move with his lovely wife and daughter 3 years ago, and now spends his time in real estate and condo managment. He speaks fluent english, french and spanish.

Peter Van Hussen

 

Peter possesses extensive experience in tourism, hospitality, real estate, commercial real estate
development and management, and government relations. Prior to joining AWE, Peter was the owner
and operator of Boutique Hotel Canciones del Mar, Playa Jaco, Costa Rica for 12 years. During those
years, Peter also worked as General Manager for Daystar Properties, one of the largest developers of
Costa Rica. Right now at this moment, Peter works as a senior Hotel consultant and is specialized in
commercial real estate and Hotel brokerage.
Prior to his role with Daystar, Peter’s gained extensive Tourism experience spanning over 20 years,
including everything from general manager, operations manager, food and beverage manager, and
reception manager and worked in the hospitality industry totally for more than 20 years. Peter also has
worked in the cruise ship business for Carnival Cruise Lines as first purser.
As President of the local Chamber of Tourism, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce for the
Central Pacific region of Costa Rica, and a past member of the Costa Rican National Board of Hotel
Owners, Peter has developed extensive business, government and community relationships. Moreover,
Peter brings a wealth of experiences in government affairs, lobbying and politics in Latin America. Being
an environmentalist and social responsible individual, Peter has coordinated many environmentally and
socially responsible programs in Costa Rica with the local and central Government.
Peter has lived in 5 different countries and speaks 5 languages including Dutch, French, Spanish,
German, and English. Also, Peter has studied at the School of Tourism in Breda Holland and also studied
at the Hotel school HOSTA in Switzerland under a Cornell administration BA program and has been a
marketing teacher for the Inter Americana University in Heredia. Peter has recently studied two Cornell
on line degrees; commercial real estate and hotel asset management.

 

 

Jimmy Magnuson

Jimmy Magnuson brings his experience of 35 years in the interior construction business. As a project manager/estimator he learned how to be detailed oriented, a critical thinker, time manager, active listener, complex problem solver and negotiater.
